
Dr Max Ray is a consultant cardiologist at Newcastle Adult & Paediatric Heart Centre, with a public appointment at John Hunter Hospital, specialising in sports cardiology, cardiomyopathy, and cardiac imaging.
He undertook a dedicated Sports Cardiology Fellowship at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and the National Centre for Sports Cardiology, and maintains ongoing professional links with these institutions.He has experience in cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) and the assessment of endurance athletes, including runners, cyclists, and triathletes.
Dr Ray provides cardiovascular assessment and care for athletes across all levels, from recreational and masters athletes to elite professionals. He has worked with athletes across a range of sports through the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), the Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS), and professional organisations including AFL and NRL clubs.
He sees patients referred from Newcastle, the Hunter Region, the Central Coast, Maitland, the Upper Hunter, and across New South Wales. Appointments are conducted at Newcastle Adult & Paediatric Heart Centre.
